Joanne exclaims that "is a delicious read that weaves the reader through both time and place. The story opens in 1965 with a Caribbean man “waiting for his daughter’s body to wash ashore” after she had fled her wedding. Then Wilkerson takes the reader to present day California with an uncomfortable reunion of estranged adult siblings, Byron and Benny. Their recently deceased mother leaves them two things: a traditional Caribbean “black cake” which they need to share “when the time is right” and a shocking audio recording that upends their world and what they know to be true. Can they set aside their grievances to grapple with what they have just heard? Each chapter is short and dramatic, and readers will delight in this engaging debut novel that explores many issues including race, identity, and environmental conservation."

Jo tells us that "THE ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF LENNIS AND MARGOT by Marianne Cronin is an intergenerational story where Lennie, 17, and Margot, 83, meet in an art therapy class at a Glasgow care center. They decide to record their combined 100 years of life in pictures, stories, and a journal. Both seem alone in their current situation. Margot's backstory reveals both loss and love. Lennie, at times, challenges the adults around her, but a level of caring exists in all she does as she creates her own circle of love. These two feisty characters become an extended family filled with humor and love. Fans of Berg's Arthur Truelove will enjoy this read."

Virginia shares, "a young woman ventures to the Amalfi coast of Italy as a way to reconnect with her beloved mother in Rebecca Serle’s newest novel, ONE ITALIAN SUMMER. Katy Silver is at a loss after losing her mother to cancer. She hopes this trip to Italy–planned by her mother–will help her deal with her intense grief. What she does not expect is to actually meet a younger version of her mother who lived in Positano thirty years ago. While it lacks the emotional punch of Serle’s other novels, IN FIVE YEARS and THE DINNER LIST, the book is an enjoyable read with lush details about the scenery and food of the Amalfi coast.'

Ann found this title to be "an engrossing novel of survival with an added question of faith. The novel begins with a group of people in a life raft who have just survived a catastrophic explosion aboard a yacht. Unbelievably, three days after the incident, a man is seen swimming in the water towards the raft. As he is pulled aboard, he claims he is the Lord. The book is divided into three parts: the sea, the land, and the news. Each section is told from a different character's point of view. This fast-paced novel mesmerizes the reader into continuing this journey with the survivors and their ultimate fates."
